Steve had been home schooled since kindergarten. My favorite part of home school was the way we could spend extra time on the harder subjects and fly through the easy ones, so that Steve was neither bored with the easy ones nor left behind in the harder ones. Also, if one approach to teaching didn't work for Steve's personality and learning style, we had the flexibility to throw it out and choose another method.

My wife Nan, pictured above, very much enjoyed her close relationship with Steve as both mother and teacher.
